We all love our cats. However, sometimes understanding them can be a challenge because they are not as open and willingly communicative as dogs tend to be. Though cats may not be as loud or obvious as dogs, they still communicate their needs and desires. Cats primarily speak to their owners through three (3) primary means: 1) their tail 2) their ears and 3) their “verbal” noises.
In general, the most popular indicator of a cat’s communication is through their tail. For example, if your cat’s tail is arched, bristled, or “poofy,” that usually means they are frightened or surprised. When their tail bristles, it is a defense mechanism that makes them appear larger than they truly are so they can intimidate their enemies. If you see your cat’s tail flicking and swaying, this usually means that they have spotted something very intriguing and they are either studying it or preparing to pounce. This can either be a playful motion or an aggressive one, depending on the cat and situation. Either way, if you see your cat acting this way, you may want to make sure you are clear from their line of pouncing…you don’t want your kitty clawing your leg or shoe!
A cat’s ears are also very telling about their thoughts or intentions. If your cat’s ears are pricked way back, flat on their head, this usually means they are stressed in some way or another, or that they are afraid. For example, if you are clipping your cat’s claws, their ears will most likely be pulled back to show their extreme dislike of the situation. If their ears are pricked straight upward and twitching, they are alert and listening to something. Though their listening is not as good a dog’s, they are still conscious of their surroundings and enjoy listening to new and interesting sounds. Finally, if your cat’s ears are pointed slightly forward and upward, this simply means that they are relaxed, happy and content.
Lastly, some cats can be surprisingly “verbal” in their communication. That is, they purr, meow and hiss. When a cat purrs, it either means that they are completely content, happy, and relaxed, or it can also mean that they are stressed and afraid. When your cat purrs, you will be able to gauge whether it is happy purring or not. The longer you have had your cat and the more you talk to your cat, your cat will talk back to you. Cats have a large variety of meows, gurgles, eeps and many other vocalizations. As you get to know you’re cat, you will gradually be able to understand when you cats wants food, water, or wants to go outside or be played with.
The more you study and watch you cat, the more you will be able to understand what they are telling you through their body language and vocalizations. Deadly And Dangerous Plants Your Pet May Find Appetizing

Plants are wonderful outdoors and indoors, and they are certainly a beautiful addition to your home. However, if you have pets, you may want to reconsider which plants you choose to have in your house (and out if you have an outdoor dog). Some plants are completely harmless if they are chewed or eaten, but some are very toxic and can even cause death. Because dogs are naturally curious and will often eat anything, it is a good idea to doggie-proof your house where plants are concerned. Here is a brief list of several plants that are harmful to your pet if ingested.
The first plant on the list is the Azalea (Rhododendron sp.). This is a poisonous plant, though consumption does not usually result in death, it does cause severe irritation. The symptoms of ingestion include stomach irritation, abdominal pain, an abnormal heart rate or rhythm, and convulsions. Sometimes, in great quantities of Azalea consumption, a coma and/or death can result.
Castor bean (Ricinus communis) is a common plant that can be very harmful if it is eaten. The primary toxic ingredient in this plant is called ricin. Ricin has been used as poison for decades, and about 1 milligram is enough to kill an adult human. These plants may be grown as an ornamental plant, or they can be a household plant. Though the seeds are primarily the most harmful part of the plant, consider the whole plant toxic. The symptoms of ingestion are vomiting, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, shortness of breath, dehydration with excessive thirst and muscle twitching or convulsions.
English Ivy (Hedera helix L.) is a beautiful plant that can be found almost anywhere. They are gorgeous and elegant as they climb up the side of the house, or as they hang from a plant holder in your home. English Ivy’s beauty may be deceiving, since this plant is very toxic to dogs if consumed. The symptoms of ingestion include stomach irritation, diarrhea, difficulty breath and coma resulting in death.
Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense) is not a household plant, but it grows heavily in meadows, fields, by rivers, ponds and lakes. So if you live in a rural area and have a pet that loves to roam around outside, you will want to be familiar with the appearance and symptoms of Johnson grass poisoning. The symptoms of consumption include difficulty breathing, severe anxiety, convulsions and coma. There is an antidote available, so be sure to take your dog to the vet as quickly as possible if you suspect Johnson grass poisoning.
Lantana is the final plant that is harmful if eaten. It is a popular plant that adorns gardens almost everywhere. It does not always cause death, but it can in severe cases. The leaves and berries of the Lantana plant are the most toxic part. The symptoms of ingestion include weakness, sluggishness, and bloody diarrhea. If the case is severe, death will occur within 2 to 4 days time.
Protecting your pets by considering what plants you put in your home and in your garden is an important thing to do. Since you can’t keep an eye on your pets all the time, the safest and best solution is to simply remove these plants or avoid them altogether so there won’t be an accident. Your pets will thank you for keeping them safe!

Having Fun With Picture Competition
A new social website was started a couple of months ago. It is called http://www.picfights.com/. Alot of people have been competing with their photos as to who wins or loses in fun matches. People from all over the world are finding their way to this new site to log-in as members.
Amazingly, there has been a little over 4 million judging competitions done in a short time. The site, also, has a new widget that can be used to log-in and keep track of your winnings and loses from another sites, and it has a new forum for the members to use to communicate with each other on the site.

Oh, My! Those self-checkout lines!
Have you ever been in a self-checkout line? People seem to either love them, or hate them.
You see a person debating if they should try one. Then they go for it. They scanned the first item. OK, everything worked right. They do the second item. Oh no! the machine start to tell them commands. First, put the item into the bag. Seem simple. Then it says an unidentified item is in the bag. Please remove it. So the person takes the last item out. Then you hear to place the scanned item into the bag. So they do that, only to hear about the unidentified item again.
Now the person is getting mad at the machine because it keeps talking. Ummm! Not good. Now the person will argue with the talking machine. Hopefully, Help is on the way. If not, can be very ugly situation.
Mean while, a 10 year old child comes up with 10 items. The child scans all 10 items in less than 5 minutes and even pays for the items and leaves with receipt in hand. You are still fighting with your machine.
By now, the cashier in charge of self-checkout, is on her way to help you. She scans the balance of your items for you and you are finally paying for everything. And it only took you 15 minutes to do 5 items. Wow! What a great invention this self-checkout is!
